Study Abroad
We currently have semester programs in Paris, Montpellier, Dakar, Aix-en-Provence, Strasbourg, and Brussels. Our summer programs include a linguistic and cultural immersion in Besançon, an internship opportunity in Paris, and an immersion opportunity in Aix-en-Provence. Please see the Global Programs program search tool for more information. Note that College of the Liberal Arts majors are eligible for Career Enrichment Network Enrichment Funds.
An important message from the Global Programs: Students who do not want to participate in existing education abroad programs or who are pursuing a course of study for which a suitable Penn State program is not available can receive information from Global Programs on study abroad opportunities offered through other institutions. Students seeking enrollment in a non-Penn State program must generally expect to take a leave-of-absence for the period of time overseas and arrange for appropriate transfer of credit from the sponsoring institution. Teaching Abroad
The French Government hires 2,000 assistants each year to teach English in primary and secondary schools. Many Penn Staters have participated in this program. For more information, visit the Cultural Services of the French Embassy website.
Work Abroad Information Resources
The Council on International Educational Exchange (CIEE) is a private company which assists students in obtaining work permits in France, in addition to helping them locate potential employers. Brochures are often available at 410 Boucke.

The French-American Chamber of Commerce (FACC), Philadelphia Chapter fosters links between businesses in the U.S. and France. They regularly publish job listings in their newsletter, L’Edition. The Fulbright Commission has one-year paid research and teaching positions in France, as well as in other countries. Graduating seniors are eligible to apply, as well as graduates.
The Consulat Général de France à Washington has as its mission the fostering of links between U.S. and French businesses. You may check their web site for further possible leads.
The staff assistant in charge of French programs at 410 Boucke (ask for referral at front desk) maintains a shelf of brochures and books which list French companies seeking seasonal help. H. The Embassy of France maintains a webpage with general information, including governmental regulations regarding work and study options in France.
