Professional Bio

A French and Performing Arts teacher and a storyteller, Véronique Nankoo is passionate about committed live performance in the Indian Ocean and is particularly interested in the idea of “Marronnage culturel”. Dedicated to the preservation and transmission of Mauritian oral tradition, she is the founder of the storytelling collective Enn Zour Dan Enn Pei (EZDEP) and the author of a play and various live shows. Véronique has represented Mauritius in several competitions, festivals and fairs, including the Paris Book Fair, the Francophonie Games in Nice, the Ti Kour Gran Kour International Storytelling Festival, the Gayar Fair, the Bel Fet Rakontaz Daniel Honoré Festival, and the Creole Festival in Rodrigues. In February 2025, she presented her creative and academic work on Mauritian oral tradition at the UNESCO Routes Of Enslaved Peoples Project International Conference - Resistance, Liberty, and Heritage in The Western Indian Ocean held at the University of Mauritius. In collaboration with Reunionese partners, she is currently working with both private and state institutions to have storytelling added to the foundation school program in Mauritius.
