Professional Bio
Emma Rossby is a dual-title Ph.D. candidate in French and Francophone Studies and Visual Studies. Her research and teaching interests include the digital and public humanities, comics studies, and museum studies, particularly as they intersect with critical race and queer theories. Her dissertation, "Graphic Fabulations: Pedagogies of Visual Storytelling in Contemporary Belgium," examines how bandes dessinées are used as teaching tools to mediate discussions of race, gender, and colonial histories outside of academic spaces. At Penn State, Emma has designed and taught courses on topics including 20th and 21st century Francophone visual cultures, transmedia storytelling and public pedagogies, literary and artistic representations of the self, and French cultural history.
