Professional Bio
Selome Medemaku holds a master's degree in French and Francophone Studies from the University of Florida. His academic interests center on African literary and cultural studies, with particular emphasis on orality, language, law and postcolonial discourse in Francophone West Africa. He is also a storyteller whose creative writing explores themes of power, memory, identity and social transformation. He was a finalist for the 2024 Quramo Writers' Prize for his manuscript The Worst Nightmare and is the author of the novel Sidney: The Emergence of a Hero, The Throne of Silence as well as several published poems in both French and English. His research examines the intersections of oral traditions, legal systems, colonial legacies and linguistic practices while exploring how literature and everyday discourse shape questions of identity, power and justice in West Africa.
