Professional Bio

Johann Le Guelte is a doctoral candidate in the French and Francophone studies department. His research interests include French colonial history, the history of photography, visualizations of empire, and anti-imperialist movements. His dissertation explores the politics of colonial visual propaganda in the interwar years and the development of transnational photographic resistance to the French empire.

At Penn State, he has taught various classes, from Introductory and Intermediate French to more advanced courses such as Linguistic Theory (FR316), Paris: Anatomy of a City (FR137) etc.
